Ramblings

Hey everybody,

Well, we got hurricane-d out of Houston this weekend.  Have to miss a radio spot on KUHF FM 88.7, the NPR station in town. Hopefully when we re-schedule, there’ll be a lively turnout of survivors and a rain checked radio appearance.  Best of luck Houstonians--hold on to your hats!

On a more positive note, I heard a few mixes of the upcoming album a few nights ago when we were in the studio putting the finishing touches on an Eliza Gilkyson vocal.  After being away from the recordings for a couple weeks, I’d almost forgotten how they sounded.  I’m happy to say that the tracks sounded really big and funky.  I’ll have to remind myself to pat myself--and my cohorts--on the back.

Next week we head for Nashville where we’ll be swinging from the balconies during the Americana conference. You can catch us live at Norm’s River Roadhouse on Tuesday the 16th at 9:30 and haunting the streets of Music City thereafter.

Tune in next week for tales from Tennessee.

Hey folks,

Welcome to my blog. I just want to let you know what’s going on down here in Texas these days.

I spent the last few weeks at Congress House Studio here in Austin recording a new album with Will Sexton producing. My long time guitarist, Tony Gilkyson, flew in from California for the sessions. Will played bass, Rick Richards was on drums and we brought Mike Thompson in on keyboards, trombone and accordion.

Some Austin locals including Rick Poss, Cindy Cashdollar, Glen Fukunaga, Eliza Gilkyson, Brian Standefer, Mark Hallman and Ruby Jane stopped in and added to the tracks as well.

We buzzed through the tracks in no time. Was a blast, really. I have a bunch of new tunes and with Tony’s dive-bombing guitars, Rick’s super grooves and Will’s cool musical touches, I think we’ve got some great stuff. It should be out early next year so keep an eye out!

If you want to keep up with what’s going on, check back here. I’ll be posting details regularly.

See you later,

RW
